My Accountant says I should be paying my staff the National Living Wage but I don’t think one particular employee is worth that much – do I have to?
If your employee is over 25 then yes you have to pay him the National Living Wage. You are not the first person to ask that – here are some of the reasons I have been given in the past: He’s a waste of space. She only wanted £5 an hour. I didn’t think it applied to small firms. But he’s disabled. She’s on benefits so those and her pay add up to minimum wage. They’re over 65, I only took him on as a favour.
