Q: For years now one employee has regularly turned up late and pushes the rules to the limit. I’ve had enough – how do I sack him?
A: Come on, play fair, you can’t sack him now as this is your fault for allowing the situation to go on for so long. If you don’t deal with issues straight away and spell out your expectations, how is the employee meant to know? Tell everyone that from now on you want everyone there on time and breaches will be dealt with as a disciplinary issue – and then do it.
