Preventing people problems – “phased return to work”

Q: I have just had another “fit note” saying the member of staff is capable of light duties and a phased return to work. We don’t have any light duties in our warehouse so what am I meant to do?

A: You don’t have to accommodate the suggestion if you have no light duties. With a phased return please be careful the employee is not worse off coming to work as it may affect entitlement to statutory sick pay.
